Toshiba Corporation Donates Laptops to SCO Computer Lab
Last month the SCO Computer Learning Lab received the largest donation it has ever received in its 10 year history. The Toshiba Corporation donated 24 laptops to the SCO Comptuer Lab. This donation replaces all the student systems in the training lab with the latest up to date computer systems. This will allow the lab to move ahead with implementing the newest operating systems and Office training assisting the unemployed and underemployed to maintain or obtain the office skills required in the workplace. This is a tremendous boost and the largest donation the lab has ever received.
This year marks the 10th year of the Comuter Lab's existence, and this year saw the Lab's 2,000th student enter its door. Over 35 volunteers teach classes in Microsoft Office and classes are held 5 days a week, and sometimes 6 days. The lab's success has been and continues to be based on the generosity of individuals and groups like Toshiba. And it is especially important for this kind of support right now when there are so many out of a job, and needing the opportunity of increasing or brushing up on these basic employable skills. Please join us in thanking Toshiba for its generosity in supporting this training effort.

Families in Need
SCO has seen that people coming in for assistance has been growing on a scale of 25-30% above the number served last year. At the beginning of September this year, SCO had served the same amount of people as it had the whole of 2008!. Last year we averaged 600 families each month, now the average is near 1,000. Yet, even though the need is dramatically increasing, the response of our community has also increased to meet this need. And this too includes an increase of volunteers reaching out to help. Volunteers are the frontline and lifeline of SCO. If you would like to volunteer, even for a short time, please call Gabrielle Comfort, Volunteer Coordinator at 949-380-8144, ext. 206. |
